Kortrijk is dynamic

The city center of Kortrijk is a nice place in the middle of an economic and industrialized region. It is a place for hanging out in the parks or along the river borders. People enjoy the trendy café's and bistro's and also the nice boutiques in the shopping area.

Kortrijk is small and bicycle friendly

 

As Kortrijk is not a big city, it is very bike-friendly. Kortrijk is one of the first cities in Belgium that gave full priority to bicycles in the city center. Bicycles are allowed to use the full with of the streets and cars are not allowed to pass them by. Speed limit for cars is 30 km and they must stay behind the bicycles.

 

The best way to discover the city is by bike.  The city center is only a radius of 1 km. So everything is pretty much in reach.  The universities like Howest, Ugent, Vives and Kulak, and all other places in Kortrijk can be reached in less than 5 minutes by bike.  In Kortrijk all students usually rent a yellow student bike, which can be rented at a very cheap price.

Kortrijk is safe

 

As the city is not big, you can never get lost ; and you can visit every area without any problem. There are no places with structural poverty, drug related criminality or specific dangers. Unemployent rates in the Kortrijk region have always been very low between 1 and 2%.  

​

It is very safe to walk around or to discover Kortrijk with your bicycle. You will never have to be scared for your purse.  Even when you need to go home at a late hour, you will feel completely safe in the streets.

When you are in Kortrijk you can enjoy plenty of public activities. Lots of festivals, cultural happenings, and special student events are organized througout the year. Mostly for free. Or you can just go out relaxing along the river borders.

4 major European capitals are in reach of Kortrijk and are only a train ticket and a few hours away. You can easily visit Paris, Brussels, London or Amsterdam for a weekend or even for a daytrip.

London and Amsterdam : 2 hours train
